“But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” -Joshua 24:15
When it comes to social media and pop culture, influence is an attribute many people desire to have. This desire to “influence” others refers to the motivation to affect the thoughts, feelings, and behavior of others. The ability to influence others can motivate and inspire people to become the best version of themselves…or discourage and tear people down.
As a disciple of Jesus, where should your influence begin? A good answer can be drawn from the life of Joshua. Before anything else, Joshua took responsibility for the spiritual well-being of himself and his family. Joshua's leadership for his family was more important than his leadership of the country. When leaders who are disciples of Jesus put their families first, the community and the local church benefits. Starting at home is always the key to affecting positive change in the lives of others.
Because Joshua had his PRIORITIES in order by leading himself and his family well, he gained respect, credibility and influence.
Pray:
Lord, I want to make a positive influence in my home, church, and community. Help me to keep my priorities in order by making You a priority in my life. Help me to, “seek” you first in everything that I do according to Matthew 6:33. Thank you for your grace, peace, protection, and provision.
In Jesus Name…Amen!
