Running your race with grace

November 01, 2021

Hebrews 12:1 “And let us run with perseverance the race set before us…”

Have you ever noticed that when competing, athletes wear the lightest outfit or the least amount of clothing possible?   Why do you think running light is important? The answer is: the less you have weighing you down, the faster you will be and more endurance you will have.

This same principle applies to the life of a Disciple of Jesus.  The bible relates our lives as Christians to running a race.  When running this race, God wants you to run with patience and endurance because He has so much for you to do.  But, when we allow sin and our past to cling to us, it slows us down and impedes our progress. Imagine running a race with chains around your shoulders, a backpack of stress, or addiction and bad habits clinging to your legs as you run.  Any of those burdens will wear you out and slow your pace.

The bible says that we must lay aside the sin and the weight that entangles us, so that we can run the race that is set before us.  For the rest of the year, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, lay your sin at the foot of the cross and run your own race with style and Grace.

Meditate & Pray: Hebrews 12: 1-2

Lord, it is only by your grace that I can run my race with patient endurance. Help me to throw off and cast aside any entanglement or weight that is holding me back. Thank you for being the author and finisher of my faith as I keep my eyes fixed on you.

In Jesus Name, Amen!
