The Gift of Joy

by Ashley Green, MSHCA on December 11, 2025

“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. ~ Luke 2:10-11 NKJV

Verse 10 highlights how fear is transformed into joy. Although the Shepherds were afraid, the angel ensured them through the announcement of Jesus’ birth that Joy is coming. However, if you pay attention to what the angel said, referring to joy will be for ALL people.

Jesus is not just for the rich and wealthy, but He comes to all. Joy is not for a selected few but for those who have a humble heart to accept Him. You don’t have to submit an application or have specific qualifications to receive the Joy of the Lord.

During the holiday seasons joy has been lost as individuals struggle to place gifts under the tree. One gift that was given to us doesn’t have to be wrapped or placed under a tree. The greatest gift that was given to us was the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Not only were we gifted with the birth of Jesus, but he brought additional gifts with him: hope, peace, joy, and love. “Joy is found not in taking and having but in giving and blessing.” Remember during this holiday season you might not physically be able to give or receive but know the Joy of the Lord is everlasting and can be given to you more than once a year.

Prayer:

Dear God, although this holiday season might be difficult for others. Send us a reminder that the joy of the Lord is our strength. That we don’t have to be afraid about what we don’t have because we know we have everything we need in You. Remind us that your hope, peace, joy, and love is open to any and all who receives and accepts You in their heart. I pray that someone reading this will receive your joy regardless of what state they might be in. That their fears can turn into joy.

In Jesus Name. Amen!
